FestivalSouth 14th Anniversary Commemorative Artwork by Martha Ginn

Each year, FestivalSouth® celebrates the season by inviting a visual artist to share their work with the world through an exhibition as well as using one of their works as a commemorative painting for the festival. This year, Martha Ginn created a beautiful fiber art quilt entitled “Prelude” as the official commemorative poster for the 2023 season. This 32 by 40-inch quilt is now being auctioned with all proceeds supporting the arts and artists of FestivalSouth. From June 3 – 24, more works by Ginn will be presented in an exhibition entitled “FestivalFibers” at the Downey Gallery at University Baptist Church in Hattiesburg, Mississippi.

“Martha is a Hattiesburg treasure, not only for her incredible art pieces, but also for her vibrant engagement in so many of our local arts events and organizations,” said Dr. Mike Lopinto, Artistic Director of FestivalSouth. “While she is adept at more traditional quilt-making, her pieces are ‘not your grandmother’s throw’ and explore fabric selection, creation, and innovative stitching and layering to create some dazzling effects.”

Her fiber art creations have been exhibited in national shows and published in books and magazines. She traveled and spoke in China through South Arts (Atlanta) and Arts Midwest (Minneapolis) for the U.S. Embassy in Beijing. She is a founding member of Pine Belt Quilters, Mississippi Quilt Association, and Southern Fiber Artists, and is active in Studio Art Quilt Associates, South Mississippi Art Association, and Meistersingers of Hattiesburg, Miss.
