MICHAELA MOORE

Event Host/PR

Michaela Moore is a senior Vocal Performance and Public Relations major at USM, originally from Biloxi, MS. She is thrilled to return this year as the event host for FestivalSouth. Moore's previous FestivalSouth experiences include starring as Amber Von Tussle in the CPBI production of Hairspray (2013) and serving as the event host in the 2015 festival. She has also been seen as Winifred Banks in “Mary Poppins”, Anita in “West Side Story”, and Frasquita in “Carmen”, all at Southern Miss. She has previously worked at the Carey Dinner Theatre in Hattiesburg, starring as Percy Talbott in "The Spitfire Grill." Last summer, she studied musical theatre in Germany with the International Performing Arts Institute. Off the stage, she has interned with WLOX TV-13 in the marketing department and the Disabilities Connection in Biloxi. She is serving as the current Miss Riverland 2016 and will be competing in the Miss Mississippi pageant on June 25th. Last year, she placed in the Top 10 of the pageant and received the preliminary talent award. Her platform is "Shining a Light on Life"- Suicide Prevention and Awareness.

KEVIN LOZANO

Kevin Lozano is graduate of the University of Florida and a South Florida native, He is currently pursuing his master’s in Vocal Performance at the University of Southern Mississippi. Past stage credits include A-rab in West Side Story and Man #2 in Songs for a New World as well as ensemble roles in Die Fledermaus, Dido and Aeneas, and The Red Silk Thread. Last summer, he performed in Italy as a part of Operafestival di Roma’s production of Le nozze di Figaro as a Figaro understudy. Most recently he was seen as Zuniga in USM’s production of Carmen. He is very excited to join the FestivalSouth team this summer and can’t wait to show what the Hub City has to offer.

Austin Querns is a 19 year old Hattiesburg native. He recently moved to Nashville, TN to attend Belmont University for a BFA in Musical Theatre. This is Austin's second year to work for FestivalSouth, and he's very excited to be working for us again. You can see Austin is in the upcoming show, Rock of Ages, featuring talented members of The Hub City Players. Be sure to check out the rockin' show!

ANTELL YOUNG

Bass-Baritone Antell Young II, a native of Memphis, TN, is currently a senior pursing a Bachelor of Music in Vocal Performance at The University of Southern Mississippi as a student of Dr. Maryann Kyle. He has performed the roles of Zuniga in Bizet's Carmen, Diesel in Bernstein's West Side Story, as well as covered the role of Foreman in Gilbert and Sullivan's Trial By Jury with the Southern Opera & Musical Theater Company. Additionally with the company he has performed in part the roles of Papageno in Mozart's Die Zauberflöte, Mr. Kofner is Menotti's The Consul, and Rambaldo in Puccini's La Rondine as apart of opera scenes projects. He has also appeared in several other opera & oratorio choruses. Previous FestivalSouth experiences include singing with The Southern Chorale & Hattiesburg Chorale Union in a presentation of Mozart's Requiem in 2015. Outside of school this season he has performed the role of Zuniga in Bizet's Carmen with the Mississippi Opera and during the summer season, he will be performing the roles of Doctor Bartolo and Antonio in Mozart's Le Nozze di Figaro in Indiana. Also in the summer season, he will cover the role of Zuniga in Bizet's Carmen at the Natchez Festival of Music as well as participate in a production of Hammerstein's Showboat in Natchez. He is also the proud owner of Antell Young Photography, which specifically is geared towards the brand management of artists by providing them with professional, high quality images for headshot use and images from recitals/concerts as well as designing important press kit materials such as an Artist CV, business cards, and more.

Wesley Saunders

WESLEY SAUNDERS

A passionate vocal performer, Wesley Saunders is a graduate of The University of Idaho, Lionel Hampton School of Music. He has performed roles such as Camille from The Merry Widow, Don Curzio in Le Nozze de Figaro, Tony of West Side Story, and others. He has been featured as a soloist in multiple performances including Schubert’s Mass in G and Handel's Messiah.​In the competition circuit, Wesley was awarded 2nd place in the 2012 North West regional NATS Competition and was a finalist in the 2013 Whitworth University aria competition. As a participant in a select group of students from the University of Idaho and Gonzaga University, he performed Bach's Easter Cantata "Christ lag in Todesbanden" at the 2014 North West regional ACDA Conference. Saunders also performed in Canada under the direction of renowned baritone, Chuck Bisset. During the past two summers, Wesley attended Interlochen Center for the Arts in Michigan where he participated in vocal recitals, major works, and received vocal instruction. Saunders is currently pursuing his masters of music degree in vocal performance at the University of Southern Mississippi under Dr. Maryann Kyle. He is thrilled to join the FestivalSouth staff this summer!
